01 -
Cut one of the cake rounds into ears and a bowtie as shown in the reference image. Arrange the cake pieces on a cake board or baking sheet covered with aluminum foil or parchment paper.
02 -
In a mixing bowl, blend together butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, almond extract, and salt. Gradually add milk or cream until the frosting achieves a spreadable consistency.
03 -
Portion out about 1/3 cup of the frosting and add drops of black or brown food coloring until the desired color is achieved.
04 -
Use a pastry bag fitted with a small round writing tip (such as Tip #3) to pipe the bunny's facial features using the black/brown frosting.
05 -
Using a toothpick, trace the shape of the nose and the interior section of the ears to outline where the pink frosting will be applied.
06 -
Fit a clean pastry bag with star tip #17 and fill it with white frosting. Hold the bag at a 90-degree angle and pipe close-fitting stars across the bunny's face and the outer parts of the ears, leaving the outlined areas bare.
07 -
Color a small portion of the remaining white frosting with pink food coloring. Fill a clean piping bag with the pink frosting and use the same star tip (#17) to pipe stars into the nose and ear interior shapes.
08 -
Color the remaining white frosting as desired for the bowtie. Using the star tip (#17), pipe stars across the bowtie pieces. Optionally, leave a small circular section bare and spread with frosting before topping with sprinkles.
