Country Ranch Green Beans Bacon (Print-Friendly Version)

Green beans and potatoes, cooked with smoky bacon and ranch seasoning, deliver comforting classic southern flavors.

# What You’ll Need to Make This:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 450 g fresh green beans, trimmed and cut into 2.5 cm pieces
02 - 450 g baby potatoes, halved or quartered depending on size
03 - 6 slices bacon, diced
04 - 1 medium onion, finely chopped
05 - 2 cloves garlic, minced
06 - 28 g ranch seasoning mix (1 packet)
07 - 240 ml chicken broth
08 - 1 tsp dried thyme
09 - 1 tsp dried rosemary
10 - Salt and black pepper, to taste
11 - 1 tbsp olive oil, if bacon is lean

→ Optional Add-Ins

12 - Red pepper flakes or hot sauce, to add spiciness
13 - 60 g shredded cheddar cheese
14 - 160 g corn kernels, finely diced carrots, or chopped bell peppers
15 - Fresh parsley, oregano, or basil, for garnish

# How to Prepare:

01 - Heat a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add diced bacon and cook until crispy, stirring occasionally for even browning. Transfer bacon pieces with a slotted spoon to a plate lined with paper towel. Retain approximately 2–3 tablespoons bacon fat in the skillet for sautéing.
02 - Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the reserved bacon fat in the skillet. Sauté over medium heat until onion becomes translucent and garlic is aromatic, about 5 minutes. If the bacon is particularly lean and there is insufficient fat, supplement with olive oil. Stir frequently to avoid scorching.
03 - Add prepared green beans and baby potatoes to the skillet with the aromatics. Stir to coat the vegetables thoroughly. Cook for approximately 5 minutes, stirring regularly to develop flavor. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
04 - Pour in chicken broth and bring mixture to a gentle boil. Sprinkle in ranch seasoning, dry thyme, and rosemary. Stir well to ensure even distribution of herbs and spices. Reduce heat to low, cover skillet partially, and simmer for 20–25 minutes, or until the vegetables are fork-tender.
05 - Return crispy bacon pieces to the skillet, stirring to integrate. Taste and adjust final seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. If desired, fold in shredded cheese and stir until melted. Garnish with fresh herbs and serve immediately while hot.

# Extra Tips:

01 - For a gluten-free meal, ensure ranch seasoning and broth are certified gluten-free. Omit cheese for dairy-free requirements.
02 - Vegetarian adaptation possible by omitting bacon and using extra olive oil and vegetable broth.
03 - To lower carbohydrate content, reduce potatoes and increase green beans or add cauliflower florets.
04 - Leftovers can be refrigerated up to 4 days or frozen up to 3 months. Reheat gently on the stove with a splash of broth to prevent drying out.
