Easy Garlic Naan Bread (Print-Friendly Version)

Soft, buttery naan layered with garlic and fresh herbs. Simple method for authentic Indian-style bread at home.

# What You’ll Need to Make This:

→ Dough

01 - 375 g all-purpose flour
02 - 7 g active dry yeast or instant yeast (1 package, 0.25 oz)
03 - 1 teaspoon sugar
04 - 240 ml warm water (approximately 43°C)
05 - 1 teaspoon salt
06 - 4 tablespoons plain yogurt
07 - 2 tablespoons oil or ghee

→ Topping

08 - 3 tablespoons minced garlic
09 - 2 tablespoons melted butter
10 - 2 tablespoons chopped cilantro or parsley
11 - additional salt to taste

# How to Prepare:

01 - In a bowl, combine yeast, sugar, and warm water. Let the mixture stand for 10 minutes until frothy.
02 - In a large bowl, mix flour, salt, yogurt, and oil. Add the activated yeast mixture and knead for 10 minutes until the dough is smooth. Cover and let rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
03 - Divide the dough into 8 equal portions. Roll each piece into an oval approximately 20 cm in length.
04 - Heat a lightly oiled skillet over medium-high heat. Cook each naan for about 1 minute per side until bubbles form and both sides are golden brown.
05 - Combine minced garlic with melted butter. Brush each naan generously with garlic butter. Finish with a sprinkle of salt and garnish with chopped cilantro or parsley.

# Extra Tips:

01 - For a vegan option, substitute plain yogurt with coconut milk and butter with a plant-based alternative.
02 - For a richer dough, use lukewarm milk in place of water.
03 - For gluten-free naan, replace all-purpose flour with a gluten-free blend and add xanthan gum.
04 - Store naan in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days or freeze individually for up to 2 months.
05 - Reheat naan in a skillet or microwave, adding a touch of butter if desired.
06 - Serve warm as an accompaniment to Indian dishes such as Tikka Masala or Aloo Gobi.
