In a large saucepan over medium heat, cook ground beef and chopped onion, stirring frequently, until beef is browned and onion is softened, about 5 to 7 minutes.

Add tomato sauce, kidney beans, and stewed tomatoes with their juice. If a thinner texture is desired, stir in water until preferred consistency is achieved.

Season with chili powder, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Stir well. Bring mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
