Whisk together cornmeal, all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl.

In a separate bowl, whisk together buttermilk, vegetable oil, and egg until well blended.

Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients, stirring gently until just combined.

Spoon batter into the prepared muffin tin or molds, filling each about three-quarters full. Bake for 10–12 minutes, or until golden and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

While poppers bake, whisk together melted unsalted butter, honey, and salt in a small bowl.
