Zesty Philly Cheesesteak Skillet (Print-Friendly Version)

Tender steak, bold seasonings, sautéed veggies, and provolone come together in one easy skillet meal.

# What You’ll Need to Make This:

→ Main Components

01 - 450 g flank steak, thinly sliced into bite-sized pieces
02 - 2 teaspoons low-sodium soy sauce
03 - 3 tablespoons avocado oil, divided
04 - 1 medium yellow onion, thinly sliced
05 - 1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced
06 - 1 small red bell pepper, thinly sliced
07 - 225 g baby bella mushrooms, quartered
08 - 115 g shredded provolone cheese

→ Seasoning Mix

09 - 1 teaspoon fine sea salt
10 - 1 teaspoon garlic powder
11 - 1 teaspoon paprika
12 - 0.5 teaspoon chili powder
13 - 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
14 - 0.25 teaspoon black pepper
15 - 0.25 teaspoon celery seed (optional)

# How to Prepare:

01 - In a small bowl, whisk together all seasoning mix components until evenly combined.
02 - In a separate bowl, toss sliced flank steak with soy sauce and 1 tablespoon of seasoning blend until the meat is thoroughly coated.
03 - Heat 2 tablespoons avocado oil in a large cast iron or nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add onion, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, and mushrooms. Sprinkle with 1 teaspoon of the seasoning blend. Sauté for 8–10 minutes, allowing 1–2 minutes between stirs to achieve light charring, until vegetables are tender. Transfer sautéed vegetables to a clean bowl and set aside.
04 - Add remaining 1 tablespoon avocado oil to the skillet and swirl to coat. Arrange the marinated steak in a single layer and cook undisturbed for 2–3 minutes, allowing the underside to char lightly. Toss the steak and continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until fully cooked to your preference.
05 - Return the cooked vegetables to the skillet, tossing thoroughly with the steak to combine. Adjust seasoning with salt and pepper as needed. Evenly distribute shredded provolone cheese over the top, then cover with a lid for 1 minute or until the cheese is fully melted.
06 - Serve immediately while hot.

# Extra Tips:

01 - Allowing vegetables to char slightly enhances depth of flavor and adds subtle smokiness.
02 - For optimal tenderness, slice flank steak against the grain.
