Heat a drizzle of olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.

Add sliced onions and bell pepper to the skillet. Sauté for 3 to 5 minutes until softened. If desired, add mushrooms and cook an additional 3 minutes.

Push vegetables to the side. Add ground beef to the skillet and break it apart. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes or until browned and no longer pink.

Incorporate garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Stir well and cook for another 2 minutes to combine flavors.

Lower heat to low. Lay a slice of provolone cheese over the beef mixture and cover skillet. Let cheese melt, about 2 to 3 minutes.

While cheese melts, slice hoagie rolls lengthwise without cutting all the way through.
