Use a pastry blender, fork, or two knives to cut butter into the dry ingredients until mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pieces no larger than peas. Stir in the beaten egg to form a crumbly dough.

Press half of the dough evenly into the base of the prepared baking dish.

In a small bowl, toss chopped strawberries with granulated sugar and corn starch until well coated. Distribute strawberry mixture evenly over the pressed dough layer.

Mix oats, brown sugar, and chopped walnuts with the remaining dough. Crumble this mixture evenly over the strawberry layer.

Bake for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden. Allow to cool completely in the pan before slicing into bars.
