Very Incredible Basil Sauce (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 2 cups fresh basil leaves, packed
02 - 1/2 cup olive oil
03 - 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
04 - 1–2 cloves garlic, to taste
05 - 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
06 - 2 tablespoons pine nuts or walnuts (optional)
07 - 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
08 - 1 teaspoon honey or maple syrup
09 - Salt and pepper, to taste
10 - 1–2 tablespoons water, as needed for thinning

# Instructions:

01 - In a food processor or blender, combine basil, lemon juice, garlic, Dijon mustard, honey, and nuts or cheese if using. Pulse until chopped and combined.
02 - With the motor running, slowly drizzle in olive oil until the mixture becomes smooth. Add water a little at a time if a thinner, pourable sauce is desired.
03 - Taste and season with salt and pepper. Blend again to combine. Store in a sealed jar in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.

# Notes:

01 - Dairy-free? Omit the Parmesan or substitute with nutritional yeast.
02 - Nut-free? Leave out the nuts or replace them with sunflower seeds.
03 - This sauce pairs well with grilled chicken, fish, pasta, grain bowls, eggs, or as a sandwich spread.
04 - For added heat, incorporate a pinch of red pepper flakes.
